A double on the day at Kelso
First of all Happy New Year to everyone and thank you for the continued support of STR!
The drive back down south from Kelso with Mario De Pail and Iwilldoit seemed a lot quicker on the way home after a very successful day! Mario De Pail has shown some very consistent form so far this season finishing 2nd and 1st in his two bumpers and more recently making an impressive start over hurdles winning comfortably at Kelso with Charlie Deutsch on board. He was bucking up the gallops this morning, so I don't think the race has taken too much out of him and we will look to find him another race towards the end of the month.
Iwilldoit wasn't going to let Mario have all the lime light and made a winning debut over fences to win the valuable novice chase with Connor Brace on board. This was a great win for his owners loyal Diamond Racing and his breeder Stan Brown, who has him back during the summer for his holidays, where you know he will always come back looking fantastic!
La Reine Poutine was our final runner of 2019 she made a great start to her racing career finishing 2nd in the mares bumper at Uttoxeter. A lovely honest mare who should have a bright future ahead of her. It is great to see both her and Mario running well for supportive owners Dai Walters and James & Jean Potter.
Falberto kept the good run of things going into the New Year yesterday finishing 2nd in his first start over hurdles, he hasn't been out of the top 3 in his three starts and fingers crossed he will be rewarded for his efforts getting his head in front very soon. Mick Manhattan was in the last race of the day jumping well to finish 3rd, it would be great to get his head in front soon as he shows lots of ability at home.
We have plenty of horses that have missed the first half of the season through little niggles but we are very much looking forward to them running in the next few months, so watch this space and fingers crossed the good run continues!
